Commercial
To obtain a Fire Certificate for any new Commercial Building it is a necessity to have a Fire Alarm System fitted to the relevant standards (IS 3218). This very comprehensive standard covers Life Protection to varying levels (L1, L2, L3, L4 & M) and Property Protection (P).
Any older buildings that have public access will also be required to comply with these reguations.

At the very least every home in the country should have a simple and economical Smoke Detector. These can be bought for about €10 and the battery should last for about 2 years.
A fire blanket or a small extinguisher would also be a worthwhile investment.
